Iconic Malayalam actor Mammootty has been declared as the Best Actor in the 55th Kerala State Film Awards announced by Saji Cherian, Kerala Minister for Cultural Affairs, on Monday. The veteran has yet again won the top State honour for his impressive performance as Kodumon Potty in the horror-folklore film Bramayugam. Shamla Hamza has been adjudged as the Best Actress for Feminichi Fathima, while Manjummel Boys is the Best Malayalam film.

Kerala State Film Awards

The Kerala State Awards for the year 2024 were announced during a press meet held in Thrissur on November 3, 2025, with Mammootty yet again winning the top honour. The jury was headed by noted Tamil actor Prakash Raj heads the jury, scrutinised around 128 films this year, with 38 getting shortlisted.

The hugely popular survival thriller, Manjummel Boys, was adjudged the Best film with its filmmaker winning the Best Director award. Feminichi Fathima bagged the second Best Malayalam film, along with Best Actress and Best Debut director awards. The breezy rom-com film Premalu, starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, has won the Best Popular Malayalam film, while Mohanlal's directorial debut Barroz has picked up awards for best dubbing artist (Sayanora Philip and Bhasi Vaikom).

Manjummel Boys was the other big film on the awards panel today, bagging several honours including, Soubin Shahir (Best Character Actor), Shyju Khalid (DOP), Chidambaram (Best Screenplay Writer), Ajayan Chalissery (Best Art Director), and Shibin Melvin and Abhishek Nair (Best Sound Design). While Sushin Shyam was adjudged the Best Music director for Bougainvillea, Vedan won the Best Lyricist for Manjummel Boys.

Mammootty is Best Actor, Asif Ali wins laurels too

Mammootty, Asif Ali (Level Cross, Kishkindha Kaandam) and Vijayaraghavan (Kishkindha Kaandam) were said to be in a tough race in the final round, as per reports, with the veteran actor once again emerging victorious. Mammootty was impressive as the menacing patriarch in Rahul Sadasivan's horror film, which also fetched an award (Best Character Actor) for Sidharth Bharathan, who played another key role in the film. Though Asif Ali missed out on the top award, his efforts did not go unnoticed as he was honoured with a special jury mention. Tovino Thomas too received a special jury mention for portraying three characters from three different eras in Ajayante Randam Moshanam which also won for Best Visual Effects.

Shamla Hamza wins Best Actress for Feminichi Fathima

Shamla Hamza won for her performance as Fathima, beating Kani Kusruthi and Divya Prabha, both for All We Imagine As Light and Anaswara Rajan (Rekhachithram), among others. The film's director Fasil Muhammed also won the best debut director, which beautifully portrayed the ordeal of a married woman in a conservative community in north Kerala. Even while losing out on the Best Actress Award, Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light was honoured with the Special Award for Women/Transgender. Jyothirmayi (Bougainvillaea) and Darshana Rajendran (Paradise) also won Special Jury Mention. Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage also won the Best Story Award for Paradise. Lijomol Jose was adjudged the Best Character Actor (Female) for Nadanna Sambhavam.

Last year, Prithviraj Sukumaran had bagged the Best Actor award for Aadujeevitham. Urvashi (Ullozhukku) and Beena R Chandran (Thadavu) shared the Best Actress Award.
