After a gang-led shooting at his home, director Rohit Shetty is resuming Golmaal 5 with a 60-man, two-tier security detail. Production is now high-security with restricted access and vetted staff.

Production on Rohit Shetty's next film, Golmaal 5 will now follow an unusual two-tier security system in the wake of a targeted gunshot incident outside his apartment over the weekend. Following the incident, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility, prompting the Mumbai Police and private security firms to take this step to strengthen the filmmaker's environment.

In the wee hours of Sunday, two gunmen opened fire outside the Shetty Tower residence of Shetty, causing unrest in the Juhu locality. One bullet shattered the glass of a first-floor gym during the event, which happened at about 12:45 AM. At least five shots were fired at the building. Despite Shetty being on the premises at the time, thankfully, no injuries were reported.
As part of their investigation into the incident, the Mumbai Police Department increased protection at the filmmaker's residence. The Bishnoi syndicate characterised the firing as a "small trailer" in a social media post that warned the filmmaker against "interfering" with their actions. Authorities had apprehended five Pune residents on Monday morning for their roles in the hit's planning and execution.
Mid-Day has now learned that the set of his upcoming film, Golmaal 5 will undergo security measures. Production is soon to begin. Despite widespread industry speculation about possible delays, production is still expected to begin in late February, according to existing plans. However, there has been a significant change in operational logistics.
“The film was to roll after February 15 in Mumbai,” an insider from the production team said. Now Shetty and the police must decide whether or not to reschedule the shoot dates.
No new date has been announced as of yet. But if Shetty does show up on the comedy film's set on the said date, a security detail of some 60 people will be assembled, according to the insider. A customised, two-tiered security ring is at the heart of the proposed approach. The first level of protection consists of officers from the local police force who patrol the perimeter. Managing the close vicinity of the director are Shetty's personal bodyguards, who make up Tier Two.
More significantly, Shetty will work within an access-controlled zone, and only a select few will be granted permission to enter. All personnel, including vendors, daily-wage workers, and young artistes, will need to pre-register and provide identification before they can enter the set. "All equipment trucks and vanity vans are logged in advance and checked at the entry point," the insider added, adding that vehicle movement will also be restricted.
The production house is implementing a "need-to-know" approach for scheduling to further reduce risks. Information about the shoot dates and places will be closely guarded to ensure the filmmaker's safety. "The call-sheet circulation will be restricted, and location details will be shared in a staggered manner," the insider stated.
John Abraham is set to play the role of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria in Shetty's other project, which began filming in April 2025 but has now been put on hold for two weeks. Before the latest security concerns surfaced, the project, reportedly titled Maria IPS was almost wrapped.
An insider informed the tabloid that the filmmaker would be in Ooty until January 30 for a recce. "Until mid-January, the film was being shot in South Mumbai. Another two weeks’ work is left on it. But now, the remaining shoot will be reconsidered," said the source.
To determine whether these individuals have any broader connections to the gunmen who attacked Salman Khan's house in 2024, the Mumbai Crime Branch is still working in tandem with officials in Pune.
