The romance film Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan which stars Vikrant Massey and debutante Shanaya Kapoor, had a little better day at the box office. The film's two-day total came to ₹78 lakh after adding over ₹43 lakh on Saturday, following an opening of about ₹35 lakh on Friday.

Mixed responses from masses and critics

Santosh Singh's film, inspired by Ruskin Bond's short tale The Eyes Have It chronicles the journey of two strangers on a train from Mussoorie to Mumbai. Massey portrays a blind musician, while Shanaya Kapoor plays a stage performer. The film has gotten mixed reviews, but the performances, especially Kapoor's debut, have garnered praise.

Although there has been some improvement, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan still needs more time to reach its break-even point. The film had a total Hindi occupancy of 15.25% on Saturday. While the morning shows saw a slow start at 7.52%, the afternoon and evening shows showed slight gains at 15.60% and 14.72%, respectively. There was a small uptick in interest throughout the day, but the night shows were the most promising, with an occupancy rate of 23.14%.

Tough competition from Superman and Maalik

Superman and Maalik two other releases that opened on the same weekend, are doing far better at the box office than this one. Maalik has also surpassed the ₹9 crore milestone in just two days, even though Superman is now topping the box office charts with impressive numbers. Alternatively, by the conclusion of its initial weekend, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is fighting for even ₹1 crore.

Flavourful Mix of Romance

In deciding the film's limited theatrical run, Sunday collections will play a pivotal role. The future of the film is questionable due to its low critical reception and lack of interest from audiences outside of major cities. Despite the performances, industry experts predict that the film will struggle to perform well at the box office unless word-of-mouth significantly improves.

Box office outlook remains uncertain

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan needs a giant surge as it enters Day 3 to surpass the ₹1 crore barrier, which is the bare requirement for lesser-budget films that want to stay in theatres for longer.
