Not just Aditi Rao Hydari but Siddharth Jadhav also spoke about his acting process for their upcoming movie with Vijay Sethupathi, Gandhi Talks

Ahead of their movie Gandhi Talks’ theatrical release, Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth Jadhav and AR Rahman gathered to discuss their upcoming movie and the challenges they have to face while working on a silent film. They were all spilling the tea on how they individually tried to not exaggerate their performance while trying out acting for a silent movie like the upcoming film. Vijay Sethupathi had revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he consciously worked towards refining his character with each scene, but Aditi and Siddharth followed a different process. Aditi, especially, had a rather unique way of filming Gandhi Talks. Here’s what happened…

When asked if there’s no dialogue, is there a temptation to act more, Vijay Sethupathi shared that happens automatically. “When there’s a crocodile in the water, you’ll know whether to jump or not. So, it will happen automatically,” he stated. Aditi interrupted and spoke about whether there’s a tendency to over-mime. “Speaking out of my own experience, without the theory of it, I really enjoy that,” Aditi shared. “You just get to be, breathe, feel and respond to the actors and director in front of you. The way the screenplay is written is also important because a lot of the information is coming through the screenplay,” Sethupathi stated, addin, “We consciously avoided mime because otherwise it’s not a silent film. Somewhere we feel it and then try to avoid it.” Aditi also pointed out how for her, there’s some music playing in her head, which could sound delusional but fills your being with the situation at hand. “It’s so fun how it changes in the middle of the scene – just to be present and be able to flow with that feeling. A lot also depends on what you’re being given with the people in the frame with you,” she said, pointing out how she was constantly in the frame with Sethupathi.
Siddharth Jadhav narrated his experience and shared how the director Kishor Pandurang Belekar would narrate it all with the script. “There are different stories – there’s revenge and a lot more,” he revealed, adding that Kishor would guide with the acting parameter as well. “It’s subtle acting,” he stated, confirming the movie is about action and reaction. He added that it works well with a good co-star in front of you. He expressed how simple nodding could help the viewers realize that two people are interacting. “This isn’t mime. That happens with dialogues,” he affirmed. The actor picked up on the mood, and explained how the director would constantly guide about even as much as the speed at which the actor should run. “We used to feed it in AI,” Siddharth joked, adding that it is tough to perform such scenes as actors, but they trusted the director for clarity about the scene and eventually, the whole film. “Hum toh actors, jitna ho sake… Ek toh excitement mein but also darr ke ki scene ho raha hai ya nahi... Lekin finally woh ho toh gaya,” he shared.
