A still from Argylle

Argylle is an intriguing meta-theatrical espionage comedy that plays with the concepts of authorship, reality, and identity, while throwing a lot of cool action sequences, cute cat moments, and a lot of modern comedy of errors. Directed by Matthew Vaughn of the Kingsman franchise, the film was released in international theatres on February 2, 2024. But it did poorly at the box office, garnering just over $92 million despite being made on a budget of $200 million.

However, the film has its sincere merits and after arriving on digital streaming platforms, deserves a watch, or three. Argylle will be available for rent or purchase on VOD digital platforms, like Google Play, Prime Video, and its home platform, Apple TV+ from March 5. Indian viewers will be able to stream it towards the end of the day, or on March 6, due to the time zone difference.

Plot of Argylle

Argylle follows the story of Elly Conway, a reclusive introvert, who writes espionage novels for a living and is a bit famous, though she does not feel too strongly for the fame. While writing her fifth novel, Elly experiences writer’s block after her mother criticizes the cliffhanger climax. Elly decides to take a trip and visit her mother to clear her mind.

Watch Tejas, Expendables 4, Australian Open, Cubicles 3, and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack, which provides access to 22 OTTs at just ₹249 for the first month.

En route via train, with her cat Alfie, Elly suddenly encounters a man who proclaims to be a fan, as well as an espionage agent. He explains that the evil organization, Division, from Elly’s novels are real. So are the events from her books, making Elly a highly sought prophetic writer who can predict important future events. But who wants her but a devious and deceptive organization with malicious intentions?

Not only that, when reality and fiction merge, Elly becomes a character of her own novel, decimating traditional notions of author and authority, while maintaining a fun meta touch. Now she has to escape the trained killers to find and protect the Masterkey, if she wishes to have any kind of life again. With seamless editing, kickass action sequences, and plenty of laughter, Argylle makes a perfect Sunday binge with family or friends.
