It was on the set of Ekka that Arun Sagar was told about the upcoming web series Shodha and offered a pivotal role in it – that of a cop. “I’ve played cop in plays, but never onscreen. Also, if you look at my career graph as an actor, it is very rare that I have been given a serious role. In my initial days, I had done a role in Sunil Kumar Desai’s Marma, after which I have hardly ever got to do another serious character. So, when I got the opportunity in Shodha, I knew that I had to take it up as a challenge and do justice to it,” said Arun, who plays a senior police officer called Bhairava.

Shodha is a 6-episode suspense thriller, written by Suhas Navarathna (Kyaabre) and directed by Sunil Mysuru (Orchestra, Mysuru!), which has actor-filmmaker Pawan Kumar (Lifeu Ishtene, Lucia, U-Turn) in the lead, along with Siri Ravikumar, Anusha Ranganath and Saptami Gowda. The show will be available on Z5 (via OTTplay Premium too) on August 29, having been postponed from its earlier August 22 release date. Each episode will be around 20 minutes in duration.

Arun Sagar: Web series provide opportunities to new talent

Arun is also immensely appreciative of the fact that Zee has taken the initiative to commission Kannada web series, which, he believes will provide opportunities to a lot of deserving new talent. “At a time when there is uncertainty about the scope for new talent in cinema, web series are the best bet for these youngsters to prove their mettle. It’s great that Zee is giving youngsters a platform,” said Arun.

Shodha, according to reports, is the Kannada remake of the 2024 Hindi show Khoj – Parchaiyo Ke Uss Par, which had Sharib Hashmi, Anupriya Goenka and Aaamir Dalvi in the lead. Arun takes on Aamir Dalvi’s role from the original.
