Baapu film

Brahmaji is one of the most prolific actors in Telugu cinema, having appeared in over 500 films throughout his career. He began with lead roles but later transitioned into supporting characters. After nearly a decade, he once again took on the main lead in the film Baapu.

Baapu OTT platform details

This family drama was released in theaters on February 21, 2025. Though the film had a compelling subject, its execution failed to impress the audience. We, at OTTplay, were the first to reveal that Baapu's OTT rights were acquired by Jiohotstar for a hefty amount and would
stream it on March 7, 2025.

Now, Baapu is officially streaming on Jio Hotstar, but it has started on a relatively low note, with many unaware of its digital release. The film made its way to OTT just two weeks after its theatrical debut.

Baapu basic plot and star cast

Directed by Daya, Baapu tells the story of a struggling farmer, played by Brahmaji, who is drowning in debt and must repay a large sum to save his land. In a desperate conversation with his family, he considers an extreme measure—killing his own father to claim insurance money. The rest of the story follows how the family copes with this shocking idea, ultimately realizing the moral and legal consequences of their plan. The narrative unfolds in a simplistic manner, with the second half being a crucial segment. However, director Daya's lackluster execution diminishes the impact.

The film also features Surender Reddy and Dhanya Balakrishna in key roles, while Amani plays Brahmaji's wife. Her character, which has negative shades, stands out as one of the film’s highlights. Racha Ravi, who plays one of the antagonists, delivers a commendable performance.

This week, other Telugu films like Thandel and Manamey have also premiered on OTT, potentially overshadowing Baapu. However, for those who enjoy village dramas infused with comedy and suspense, Baapu might be worth a watch on Jiohotstar. We’ll have to wait and see how Baapu fares in the OTT space. Stay tuned for more updates!
