It is a big week for the south film industry this week, at least in the digital space. Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra and Kantara Chapter 1 are the biggies from Malayalam and Kannada industries, while Dhanush brings an endearing rural Tamil drama to the screens. Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra

Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan leads Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, the blockbuster Malayalam film, which narrates the tale of a mysterious woman, who is later revealed to be a superhuman. Directed by Dominic Arun, the film features star cameos by the likes of Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan who has also backed the woman-led movie. Lokah was lauded for intelligent storytelling, technical brilliance and some terrific performances by the lead cast, which included Naslen. The first film in the five-part franchise, Lokah Chapter 2 has already been announced with Tovino in the lead.

Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1

Another franchise film, but the 2025 Kannada film is the second installment and the prequel to the Rishab Shetty-led 2022 blockbuster hit. Kantara Chapter 1, which is set during the Kadamba dynasty’s reign, is among the top grossers in the country this year. The attempt to lay siege on the sacred forest and the consequences are portrayed in the film, which saw Rishab Shetty as the protagonist Berme. The elegant Rukmini Vasanth plays the female lead in the film, along with Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram.

Idli Kadai

OTT release Date: October 29, 2025

Tamil star Dhanush once again returned to the director’s chair with Idli Kadai, which also saw him in the lead role. A successful chef, who once defied his father’s wishes as he chased his dreams, returns to his hometown to take care of his Appa’s Idli Kadai (a small-scale hotel). Idli Kadai had a decent run at the theatres, though it did not match up to the popularity or box office numbers of Lokah and Kantara. Idli Kadai also features Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj and P. Samuthirakani, along with Nithya Menen, who recently said that she went to collect her National Award from the sets of Idli Kadai. She had won the honour for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam, starring Dhanush.
