Bloody Daddy star Shahid Kapoor: I won’t be doing only complex roles; don’t want to become a cliché
Shahid Kapoor made his OTT debut with 'Farzi' earlier this year

Shahid Kapoor made a thunderous OTT debut with Raj & DK’s black comedy crime thriller television series Farzi (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) in February 2023. Meanwhile earlier this month, the actor donned a rather dark and intense avatar in Ali Abbas Zafar upcoming actioner Bloody Daddy. Once known for his ‘cute, chocolate boy’ image, the versatile actor seems to have had quite an evolution in recent years. So, does that mean that he will be seen doing complex roles hereafter? Probably not!

While speaking in an interview with Bombay Times recently, Shahid admitted that although the desire to do something complex and challenging was always there, he was not offered those kinds of roles earlier. “You can only choose from the choices that are in front of you. I feel as you become more secure and settled as an actor, you want to take up new challenges. Of course, playing characters that are layered, complex and sometimes flawed is exciting, as it is more challenging to get the audience to relate to them or feel compassion towards them. It’s harder than playing a guy who is just cute and sweet, which gets boring after a while. Some enjoy doing it for their whole careers, but I am not one of them,” the Kabir Singh star elaborated.

That said, the actor - who is known for films like Jab We Met Kismat Konnection, Kaminey, R... Rajkumar, Haider, Udta Punjab and Padmaavat - also asserted, “I won’t be doing only complex roles. I have to do different things. If I keep repeating myself in that zone, it will become cliché. The idea is not to become a cliché, and that is what I intend to do - keep changing every time.”

While Bloody Daddy will be released on Jio Cinema, on June 9, the actor will soon share screen space with Kriti Sanon in a yet-to-be-titled Maddock film. Following these, Shahid will appear in Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha’s upcoming action thriller film Yodha which also stars Sidharth Malhotra, Rashi Khanna and Disha Patani.
