Buzz: The announcement on Vijay, Lokesh Kanagaraj's Thalapathy 67 is expected to be out on THIS date

With the humongous success of Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), all eyes are on director Lokesh Kanagaraj's next project. Though the filmmaker initially had plans to make a sequel to his Karthi-starrer Kaithi (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), he decided to team up with Vijay for a project.

Though tentatively titled Thalapathy 67, an official announcement is yet to be made on the movie, and fans of the star are eagerly awaiting the same. We now hear that there are high chances of an announcement to be made on August 24. Interestingly, it is also the date on which Thalapathy 64 (which eventually became Master) was announced.

Master (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), which marked the first collaboration of Vijay and Lokesh, was also the movie which brought back the audience back to movie halls in Tamil Nadu after the first lockdown. The film also went on to become the highest grossing project of Kollywood in 2021.

It was supposed to hit the screens in April 2020, but the unanticipated lockdown made makers postpone their plans by nine months. Though there was speculation about the team going the OTT route, they waited patiently and released the film in theatres for the Pongal festival in January last year.

With the actor-filmmaker duo joining hands again for the second time, there are skyrocketing expectations among their mutual fans and other film buffs. Since Vikram reaped huge profits in Kerala and Telugu markets, it is expected that the same feat would be repeated by Thalapathy 67.

Meanwhile, the shooting of Vijay's ongoing film, Varisu with Vamshi Paidipally, is going on at a brisk pace. The family drama is slated for a theatrical release on Pongal 2023.
