CCL Season 12: On Kiccha Sudeep’s birthday, the official social media handle of his CCL team Karnataka Bulldozers had hinted at a November start, but half-way into the month, there’s been no update

November 2025 – that is when the 12th season of the Celebrity Cricket League would return. So said a post on the official social media handle of the Sandalwood team, Karnataka Bulldozers, on skipper Kiccha Sudeep’s birthday on September 2. A player, on condition of anonymity, had said that the team had been sounded off about a mid-November start for the new season. Sudeep fans wondered how the actor would be able to manage, considering that he would have Bigg Boss Kannada 12 duties, as well as the release of his next, Mark, which is gunning for a Christmas outing.

Although the Bulldozers handle mentioned a November start, there was nothing official from CCL until now. Earlier this week, official confirmation from the organizers came for a January 2026 start to the tournament. Vishnu Induri, the founder of CCL told OTTplay that Season 12 will kick off on Friday, January 9, 2026. 8 teams will play this season, with the Kerala Strikers returning to the fold, having skipped Season 11. Four weeks of scintillating star-studded cricket action is in store, with the final likely on February 1. The schedule and details of the broadcast and streaming partners will be announced closer to the start of the tournament.

Earlier this year, when Season 12 was announced, Kiccha Sudeep had spoken about a new initiative that would involve fan participation, with each team to include 2 players with no professional cricket experience. Details about this will also be revealed in the coming days.

After an initial dominance by three of the four south teams in CCL – Telugu Warriors, Bulldozers and Chennai Rhinos, winning 8 of the last 11 seasons, in the last couple of years, the tide has changed. While the Bengal Tigers lifted the Cup for the first time in Season 10, a year later, it was the turn of the literal underdogs, Punjab De Sher, to trounce everyone else. Of the 8 teams, the only two that have not won yet are the Bhojpuri Dabanggs and the Kerala Strikers, both of who have come tantalisingly close, but missed out eventually. Will Manoj Tiwari’s boys come back with a bang or will a rejuvenated Strikers with Unni Mukundan at the helm spring a surprise? Let’s wait and watch.
