Coolie director Lokesh Kanagaraj clarifies if his Aamir Khan project is Irumbu Kai Mayavi or not

Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently awaiting the release of his film Coolie, is scaling new heights and will be next teaming up with Hindi actor Aamir Khan. While a lot of reports had stated that it will be a superhero film and based on Lokesh’s dream project on Irumbu Kai Mayavi, the Coolie filmmaker clarified if the film is same.

Coolie is one of the most-anticipated releases in August. Not only it is a Rajinikanth film, but also that it is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj who is one of the sought after filmmakers in the country. While after Coolie, Lokesh has a line-up of projects including Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2, the filmmaker will also be collaborating with Aamir Khan who has played a cameo in Coolie, for a full-fledged film.

Buzz was that the film with Aamir Khan will be a superhero script based on the story Irumbu Kai Mayavi. In a recent conversation with Valaipechu Voice YouTube channel, Lokesh said that he wants to give clarity.

Lokesh said, "I had written Irumbu Kai Mayavi about 10 years back and was supposed to be my entry ticket. But because of the scale, I did not have confidence and pushed it. I love the script so much for the values it held. But due course of time, many elements and scenes from the script has been made in many films.”

He also added, “No complaints because it is 10-year-old story and many are bound to think alike. It is mythological story. So, when I sit down, it should become totally different. With Aamir Khan sir, we spoke a lot, and he wanted to do an action film together based on our commitments. But we have not fixed on what it is. Since Irumbu Kai Mayavi elements have been touched upon, I will handle it fresh."
