Coolie, the upcoming Tamil film starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is gearing up for release in less than a month. The film, which is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is the next big release that Tamil cinema is awaiting this year. Coolie will also release in Hindi, even as it will face competition from spy action thriller War 2. As per reports, Coolie will have an eight-week window period, given the film is releasing in single screens and multiplexes in the northern belt of India.

Only a less than a month is left for the release of the highly anticipated Tamil film Coolie. The film is not only anticipated because it is a Rajinikanth film but also it marks the first time the actor is collaborating with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. Coolie will hit big screens on August 14, and will clash with War 2. As per the social media buzz and reports, the makers of Coolie are planning to go ahead with the Hindi release as well, and have signed eight-week window deal between the theatrical and streaming release. Prime Video has bagged the rights of Coolie and the film is expected to get some screens for IMAX release as well.
Coolie features a star ensemble, and this includes actors from various industries. With Aamir Khan confirmed to make a cameo appearance in the film, others part of the cast include Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and others. Pooja Hegde comes for a song, Monica, in the film.

Already, social media is ringing with the alleged leaked plot of Coolie. If one has to go by it, then Coolie is said to revolve around an aged gold smuggler who uses a tech hidden in golden watches to revive his old mafia crew to claim his throne back. However, the overseas booking apps also describe the film as "man’s relentless quest for vengeance since youth, driven by righting past wrongs, shaping his very existence".
