D56: Mari Selvaraj-Dhanush to be a fantasy; director says it will be starting point to all his previous films

Mari Selvaraj revealed that D56, his second collaboration with Dhanush, will be a big-budget periodic fantasy film with strong political themes, blending imagination with social commentary

It was earlier announced that director Mari Selvaraj, who last made Bison Kaalamaadan, will be joining hands once again with actor Dhanush for D56. The film was announced a little while ago. While Dhanush is currently working on D55 with Rajkumar Periasamy, Mari Selvaraj spoke about his project and shared some interesting details.

D56: What did Mari Selvaraj say about his film with Dhanush?

Director Mari Selvaraj who has been giving critically acclaimed films, is teaming up for the second time with Karnan actor Dhanush. The film was announced as a big-budget film and the pre-production works are underway.

Taking part in a recent Behindwoods event, Mari Selvaraj spoke about D56, “It will be a periodic film and for the first time, I am trying fantasy. It will speak politics as well. What if someone goes back to the time, when differentiation came up, and put a solution then and there itself. If someone goes back to the starting point of Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, Maaamanan, Vaazhai and Bison and put an end, and made a change. I am shooting like a fantasy and I wanted to gain the experience of five films to believe in making this. Dhanush sir wanted this film to be made big, in both our careers. We wanted a good team and now that we have, the works are going on.”

What is Dhanush’s next film?

Dhanush, last seen in Hindi romantic drama Tere Ishq Mein, will have his next release sometime in April. Titled Kara the film is directed by filmmaker Vignesh Raja of Por Thozhil fame. The commercial thriller set against the rugged and rustic landscapes of Ramanathapuram, will be a dark, gripping and gritty film. The cast includes KS Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, and Prithvi Pandiarajan. Meanwhile, Dhanush also has D55 with Rajkumar Periasamy, which will feature Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, with Sai Abhyankkar scoring the music.
