According to the latest in Sandalwood circles, the makers of Darshan’s Devil are eyeing a festive release for the film

A few days ago, when reports emerged that Challenging Star Darshan had wrapped up the shoot of his film The Devil, it was said that the Prakash Veer directorial would likely be an end of the year release. Darshan’s last, Kaatera, was a December theatrical release and was a box office success, while Kiccha Sudeep managed that last year with Max. Devil would be the Christmas-New Year offering from Kannada, or so it was thought.

But now, there are murmurs in industry circles that Devil may be in theatres much earlier and that an official announcement will happen shortly. According to the buzz, October is when the film is likely to release. A date between Deepavali (October 20) and Kannada Rajyotsava (November 1) is being speculated. October-November is also the window that the makers of Dhruva Sarja’s KD – The Devil are eyeing for release. It would be interesting to see if both these Devils end up in a box office clash.

An action flick, Devil also stars Rachana Rai, Jisshu Sengupta, Sharmiela Mandre, Mahesh Manjrekar, Mukesh Rishi, Vinay Gowda, Chandu Gowda, among others. This is Prakash Veer’s second collaboration with Darshan, after 2017’s Tarak, which was the filmmaker’s last directorial venture. Filming of Devil began in March 2024, but was then halted when Darshan was arrested in the Renukaswamy murder case. At the time, the team was eyeing a December 2024 release.
Shooting resumed only in February 2025, including a couple of foreign schedules. Music has been handled by Ajaneesh Loknath, while Sudhakar S Raj is credited with the cinematography. According to reports, the team has already finalized the satellite and digital rights of the film. Zee Network, which had acquired the actor’s Kaatera, is the frontrunner currently. An official announcement is expected along with the release date update of Devil.
