For the uninitiated, Pariyerum Perumal is a 2018 social drama which went on to become a trailblazer of sorts and gave Tamil cinema one of the prominent filmmakers of today’s times, Mari Selvaraj. Produced by Pa Ranjith and starring Kathir and Anandi, Pariyerum Perumal talked about the caste oppression, through various characters - protagonist Pariyan who wants to pursue law, his dog Karuppu which becomes a victim of caste hegemony, Jo, the girl who he meets at college, as their newfound friendship ends even before it becomes anything.

Must watch films on societal issues

With the trailer of Dhadak 2 leaving the audience divided between choosing whether it is good or bad, the Tamil audience who have already seen the original and rooted version seem to be taking the adaptation with a pinch of salt. One of the talking points became the lip lock shot between the lead pair in Hindi, while the scene was completely missing in the Tamil version. This is because, towards the strong climax of the Tamil version, when Pariyan is met by Jo’s casteist father, the latter asks him if he had any feelings towards his daughter to which the protagonist says that even before he could realise his feelings, he was prevented and trashed for it, leaving him with no choice of exploration anything with Jo.

Here are some reactions by Tamil audience to Dhadak 2 trailer. Some say the kiss is "deeply concerning", while some say the Hindi version "chose glamour over guts"
