Dhurandhar 2 director Aditya Dhar's family has gone through trauma and that reflects in his films' intensity: Major Ravi

Despite the massive success of Dhurandhar, the 2025 Hindi film and its sequel have also faced accusations of being a propaganda movie. Ranveer Singh stars in the spy thriller, helmed by Aditya Dhar.

Hindi filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s films Dhurandhar and its latest sequel Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh, depict the daring escapades of an Indian agent who infiltrates terror networks in Pakistan. The director’s earlier works include Uri and Article 370 which revolve around Kashmir and the conflicts in the Valley. Remarking about Aditya’s choice of subjects that has sparked discussions, Malayalam director Major Ravi pointed out that Aditya Dhar’s family has gone through traumatic experiences and that intense emotions reflect in his films as well.

Is Dhurandhar a propaganda film?

Despite the massive success of Dhurandhar, the 2025 Hindi film and its sequel have also faced accusations of being a propaganda movie. In a recent interview with Movie World Media, Major Ravi said that Dhurandhar was able to generate an Indian spirit.

“It can’t be said as propaganda. ‘This is not the old India; we will come to your land and strike back - this is the policy of the movie. Also, Aditya Dhar is a Kashmiri. His family has suffered all this. That's why he took the film Article 370. His family has gone through that trauma and that intense emotion is depicted in his films,” explained the filmmaker, who has also crafted several Malayalam war movies with Mohanlal in the lead.

“If you ask if it is exaggerated, it could be,” he added.

Major Ravi, a retired Army officer, also recounted meeting real-life heroes such as Major Mohit Sharma. Akin to the movie, Mohit had also infiltrated the enemy camps at great risk, undergoing intense preparations, but never boasted about his daring ventures.

Aditya Dhar had earlier clarified that Ranveer Singh’s character is not based on Mohit Sharma after speculations were sparked after the trailer released last year.

What is Dhurandhar 2

Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is the sequel to the 2025 blockbuster thriller movie, continuing with the story of undercover intelligence agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi.

Also starring Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt, Dhurandhar 2 has opened to mixed reviews for its plot and execution. The film is nearly four hours long, but despite the criticisms, it opened to big numbers. Dhurandhar 2 released in theatres on March 19. Such was the hype around the sequel of the spy thriller that several big-budget movies, such as Telugu flick Peddi, deferred their releases.
