Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, who last directed Retro, recently at an event in Kerala confirmed the plans for this 2022 action drama Mahaan. Starring Vikram in the lead role, along with his son and actor Dhruv Vikram, Mahaan revolved around the story of a man who from being a school teacher went to become a liquor bootlegger.

Mahaan is a 2022 action thriller drama, which had opted for a direct-to-OTT release. The film was critically acclaimed and starred Vikram in the lead role. At an event in Kerala, Karthik Subbaraj was asked by a fan if he has plans to do a sequel to Mahaan. "I have a small idea and I need to write it out,” he answered. When the fan asked if they can expect in 2027, Karthik Subbaraj was optimistic and said that it might take 2027 or 2028 for the sequel to pan out.

The film which released in 2022, marked the first and the only time so far Dhruv Vikram shared the screen space with Vikram. Due to the pandemic situation then, the film had to opt for streaming release and is now available on Prime Video to watch. Mahaan revolves around a school teacher who follows Gandhi principles. But one day when he attempts to deviate from the part, it causes a major havoc in his life, making his wife and son part ways with him. Years later, now a liquor bootlegger, the father confronts his son, who is now a cop and has nothing but vengeance towards his father. Simran, Bobby Simha, Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, Deepak Paramesh and Aadukalam Naren are part of the film.
