It is official! Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has confirmed that his most-anticipated film, Drishyam 3, will be released in theatres on April 2, 2026. The Jeethu Joseph-helmed film is the third instalment in the popular thriller film franchise. Mohanlal made the big announcement by released a thrilling video, which recapped the major events of Drishyam 1 and Drishyam 2. When will Drishyam 3 release

The release date of Drishyam 3 has been one of the most discussed among Malayalam cinephiles, ever since director Jeethu Joseph confirmed that the Mohanlal-starrer is an April 2026 release. There were speculations over whether movie would be released on April 2 or 3, but now putting rest to rumours, the makers have confirmed that Drishyam 3 would be out on April 2, (Thursday). Notably, this sets up the film perfectly for the long Easter holiday weekend.

Drishyam 3 in Hindi, with Ajay Devgn in the lead, will hit theatres on October 2.

In the short animated video shared by Mohanlal on social media, we see the events from the first Drishyam film unfold, beginning with the crime scene after Varun’s murder and the hiding of evidence. The visuals then showcase the events of the second Drishyam film where Mohanlal’s Georgekutty character came up with a film plot to outsmart the police. The video ends with a close-up of Georgekutty’s family, featuring actors Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil.

What to expect from Drishyam 3

Drishyam 3 will continue with the story of Georgekutty, who was able to outsmart cops in the first two films. Whether Drishyam 3 would be yet another tussle between the commoner and the cops remains to be seen. Jeethu Joseph had earlier said that, unlike the previous films, the third installment is not a thriller. However, the short video hints otherwise, and we will know for sure only when the film hits theatres worldwide on April 2.

Drishyam 2 co-writer Santhy Mayadevi had recently said the upcoming film would have court sequences, that have come out well. Drishyam 3 shoot had started in October 2025, and the filming was wrapped up in December.
