Dude actress Mamitha Baiju reveals after Premalu she got fewer offers in Malayalam than Tamil

Mamitha Baiju, who is now gearing up for the release of the Tamil film Dude, said that she got fewer offers from Malayalam after Premalu’s phenomenal success.

Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju shot to instant fame with the success of the rom-com film Premalu. But Mamitha has had no Malayalam releases since the Naslen-led film released in February 2024. Earlier too, there have been actresses who got better opportunities in Tamil and Telugu cinema after tasting success in Malayalam and seldom returned to their home industry. So is that the case with Mamitha too? But the young actress, who is now gearing up for the release of the Tamil film Dude, said that she got fewer offers from Malayalam after Premalu’s phenomenal success.

Dude is an upcoming Tamil film, starring actor-filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju. Ahead of the film’s release on October 17, 2025, the actress spoke to Manorama News, where she was asked when she would be returning to Malayalam cinema. The bubbly actress replied that she never left to return.

"Basically, at the time, most of the movies that came my way were from Tamil. I got different characters from Tamil. In Malayalam after Premalu, I got very few scripts. So since I did not have anything else, I listened to Tamil scripts more and the characters were more interesting. So I chose that," she explained, adding that she wants to do Malayalam films.

After the success of Premalu, the makers had announced its sequel, Premalu 2. When Mamitha was asked about the sequel plans for the Girish AD directorial, she said that discussions were happening and she too does not have any updates to share.

Meanwhile, Mamitha Baiju’s Dude with Pradeep Ranganathan will release in theatres on October 17, 2025, as a Diwali special. The Malayalam actress will be seen in the role of Kural in the film, helmed by Keerthiswaran. Hridhu Haroon and R. Sarathkumar are also part of movie, which has music by Sai Abhyankkar.
