As the trailer begins, we learn that some people perform a ritual called a "Fortune Bell" in the hopes of better romantic fortune. Khan plays the lead character, Rohan, who expresses a desperate desire for his colleague Meera (Sai Pallavi) to spend "one day" with him. The trailer implies a change in tone, moving from humorous scenes to ones depicting profound emotional turmoil.
Many discussions emphasise the key idea of transient connection. Meera yells out to Rohan, "Get out right now." But the story stresses the significance of a single day, as one character says, "Sometimes one day is enough." Last but not least, the trailer ends on a sombre note on memory, with a voiceover saying that tomorrow's events might not stick in anyone's mind.
For Pallavi, who has made a name for herself in South Indian cinema, Ek Din is her first film in Hindi, and the principal character of Rohan is played by Khan. Sunil Pandey has directed the film, and Sneha Desai penned the screenplay with Spandan Mishra. After collaborating on multiple hit romance films for years, Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan are reuniting for this project.
The 2016 Thai love drama One Day served as official inspiration for Ek Din. The story follows Rohan, a man who is infatuated with his colleague Meera but is too timid to tell her how he feels. He wishes she might accompany him on a one-day retreat to Sapporo, Japan, while they are on business. Surprisingly, his desire comes true.
With the Japan schedule wrapping up in early 2024 and the production relocating to Mumbai's Film City, the snowy landscapes in Sapporo were used to improve the film's visual look. Arijit Singh performs the title track, which is part of the score composed by Ram Sampath. Mere Raho was an alternate title for the film before Ek Din was finalised. The film's premiere has been pushed back multiple times from its planned late-2025 dates to May 2026, when it will likely compete with other big releases at the box office.
