When Chowka, Roberrt and Kaatera director Tharun Sudhir announced he was backing a script by newbie filmmaker Punit Rangaswamy, which would have Ek Love Ya fame Raanna in the lead, and introduce Priyanka Achar as the heroine, the general perception was that there’d be some substance to the story. That’s the kind of reputation Tharun has developed over the years. The film, Elumale, lived up to that expectation to a large extent, but according to industry trackers, the box office figures were far from satisfactory.

Elumale, though, has an OTT deal in place, which is not surprising, considering that Tharun serves as judge on a Kannada GEC reality show, and introduced a participant, Priyanka, in his film. Tharun and Priyanka have a Zee Kannada Mahanati connect, so it is not surprising that Zee5 has acquired the streaming rights of their film. The film, which released in theatres on September 5, will be on OTT a little over a month later. According to information from the streamer, Elumale will be available on Zee5 (and via OTTplay Premium) from October 17, 2025.

A cross-border love story amid a police operation

Elumale’s core story revolved around the love story of Harisha (Raanna) and Revathy (Priyanka); he a cab driver from Mysuru and she the daughter of a wealthy man from Salem. When her folks get wind of their relationship and try to get her married to someone of their choice, she elopes to unite with Harisha. On his way to their meeting place, though, Harisha gets waylaid by cops, who suspect of him having been involved in a hit-and-run incident.

At the station, though, Harisha unwittingly becomes a witness in a totally unrelated event, which puts him in the crosshairs of the cops. Can he find wiggle room and get to Revathy? That’s what the film is about. Joining Raanna and Priyanka on the cast are Kishore, TS Nagabharana, Jagapathi Babu, Rakesh Maiya, among others. The film has music by D Imman, which was a major highlight.
