Elumale trailer: Elumale, directed by debutant Punit Rangaswamy, stars Raanna, Priyanka Achar, Kishore, Jagapathi Babu, TS Nagabharana, among others, and releases on September 5

When actor Raanna announced his sophomore project, Elumale, nearly three years after his debut, Ek Luv Ya, all that he’d say was that it was an intense love story set against a thriller backdrop, told over the span of one night only. The film is headed to theatres on September 5, ahead of which, the team released its trailer, which shed more light on the subject and just how intense the proceedings will be.

Raanna plays a driver in the film, with the trailer hinting at an accident his vehicle gets into that is deemed a hit-and-run case by cops, arms smuggling in the dead of night in the same vicinity, the Male Mahadeshwara Betta region, and a cross-border love story. The film, according to the team, is set in 2004, which, as it turns out is the year that forest brigand Veerappan was killed during an encounter and the forest region the story is set in, is also where he used to be active. Could there be a connect? Well, we’ll have to wait for the film to drop on September 5 to know more.
The film pairs Raanna with debutante Priyanka Achar, of Mahanati fame, with Kishore, Jagapathi Babu, TS Nagabharana, among others, in pivotal roles. Speaking at the trailer launch, Kishore, who yet again plays a cop, said that Elumale is the answer to Kannada audience’s question about why the industry does not do realistic and rooted tales as seen, say, in Tamil cinema.
