Freedom is an upcoming period thriller Tamil film starring actor-director Sasikumar in the lead role. The film, which is based on true events, will hit theatres this week. Before you book tickets for the film, here is everything you need to know about Freedom.

Freedom release date

Freedom is set to release in theatres on July 10. The film marks Sasikumar’s second release this year after the successful Tourist Family. Interestingly, in both the films, the actor-director plays the role of a Sri Lankan Tamil.

Freedom trailer

The trailer of Freedom was released by the makers, which shows the glimpse of what to expect from the film. It shows how Sri Lankan Tamil refugees seek shelter in India, but they are put into brutal torture in form of investigation after a high-profile crime takes place. The trailer shows the refugees' revolt to freedom, as we see how the rebellion breaks out eventually.

Freedom cast and crew

The film features a cast led by Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose. Others include Bose Venkat, Sudev Nair, Ramesh Khanna, Boys Manikandan, among others. Written and directed by Sathyasiva, the film is produced by Pandiyan Parasuraman. The technical crew includes music by Ghibran and NS Uthayakumar cranking the camera. Srikanth NB is the editor.

Freedom plot

The plot of Freedom is based on true incidents that took place in the 90s, soon after the assassination of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. After many Sri Lankan Tamil refugees suspected of being LTTE militants were suspected and held captive at the Vellore Fort in name of investigation. They soon began to dig a tunnel via toilet underground, which led them to the moat and subsequently escape.

The OTT partner of Freedom has not yet been announced by the makers. The film is expected to stream sometime in August.
