Vir Das's official Hindi directorial debut is the upcoming film Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos. It is a spy action-comedy produced by Aamir Khan Productions. On December 3, the makers announced the film and shared a hilarious promotional video featuring Vir and Aamir.

The promotional video for Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos shows Vir Das and Aamir Khan sitting on a sofa, discussing about Vir's directorial debut film. Aamir can be heard saying, "What have you made?" with a serious tone. He sounded worried about how the audience with react to the film. Aamir questioned Vir's approach to showcasing action, romance, and an item number in the film.

When Aamir said that it would be a flop, Vir exclaimed, "Sir, everyone had a flop. You had Laal Singh..." Hearing this, Aamir started beating Vir. Following this, a group of audience members can be seen entering the scene, praising the film. The promotional video hints at a different take on Indian cinema with the hands of Vir Das.

Vir Das' directorial debut, Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, will hit cinemas on January 16, 2026. The promotional video also gave a glimpse of the teaser for the film, where Imran Khan can be seen for a few seconds along with Mona Singh and Aamir Khan. This film marks Imran's comeback to the screens after almost 11 years.

Vir Das on approaching Aamir Khan for his directorial debut

During a conversation on The Namrata Zakaria Show, Das shared that he approached the superstar personally to launch the project. "Three years ago I called Aamir Sir, and I was like, 'So I have a movie, and if you don't produce it, I don't think anyone will,'" he said. Khan responded, "No pressure."

Das also stated that the crew was nervous as they prepared the 12-minute test film to present to Khan. Das stated, "We obsessed over it because it was 12 minutes that we were going to show him." He went on to say, "You're expecting, like, a long discussion, you know, at the end of it saying, 'Ha, but this, that, etcetera, etcetera.'" But it was a quick decision. "Alright," was Khan's simple response after watching the clip at his screening theatre.

When asked if Khan would make a guest appearance, Das said, "I am telling you that you will have to see the edit."
