What is the plot of Hridayapoorvam

The 2025 Malayalam film Hridayapoorvam stars Mohanlal as a middle-aged bachelor, Sandeep Balakrishnan, who forms a bond with his heart donor’s daughter, Haritha and her mother Devika (Sangita Madhavan Nair). Giving in to Haritha’s persuasion, Sandeep lands in Pune for her engagement ceremony, which gets called off and leads to Sandeep spending more time with the mother-daughter. Up until now, Hridayapoorvam treats us to some heart-warming moments and humorous situations.

What happens in Hridayapoorvam climax

The twist in the tale comes when Sandeep, who was earlier left at the altar by his prospective bride(Runaway Rajini), develops feelings for Haritha even as her mother Devika appears to be smitten by him. Haritha, in a playful moment, also tells the runaway bride that they are in a relationship now, which further fuels Sandeep’s romantic feelings

Even as Sandeep tries to put off returning to Kochi, it is evident to Devika that it is just a ploy, but she misjudges the reason. Even Sandeep’s male nurse, Jerry (a very cheeky Sangeeth Prathap), asks him - whether he is chasing the mother or the daughter?

Just when Sandeep decides to finally confess his feelings to Haritha, she opens up about her father Colonel Raveendran and the strong, loving bond they shared. She lets him into the Colonel's room, narrating her father’s likes and habits. An emotional Haritha even lets Sandeep listen to the voice notes of the Colonel on her phone. After listening to the voice notes, Sandeep, whose eyes also well-up, tells Haritha, “Right now, I feel a little envious of you. Only truly fortunate children get to receive so much love.” He tells her, “You are so blessed”, and hugs her in a warm embrace. But it is evident that Sandeep does not harbour any romantic feelings for Haritha now.

Jerry later asks Sandeep if he doesn’t want to tell Haritha about his feelings before he leaves Pune. But Sandeep insists that it is over and that he feels guilty for having unnecessary thoughts.

And thus Hridayapoorvam returns to the happy space of feel-good drama, without jolting the viewers with any unsavoury romantic twists. That credit rests with director Sathyan Anthikad, known for meaningful cinema, along with Akhil Sathyan credited for story and Sonu TP for the screenplay.
