Scriptwriter Shahi Kabir’s films such as Nayattu and Joseph have been replete with references of the real-life workings of police officers. His directorial debut Ila Veezha Poonchira too follows the same pattern. The movie, which hit theatres last year, is now streaming on an OTT platform.

The atmospheric thriller, which has Soubin Shahir, Jude Anthany Joseph and Sudhi Koppa in the lead, revolves around three police officers stationed atop a hill and how one of them becomes a suspect in a murder case. How the other two set about to probe the mystery form the plot of the film, which compared to Nayattu and Joseph, has taken several cinematic liberties.

In an earlier interview, Shahi had said that while both Joseph and Nayattu show the police system in detail, Ila Veezha Poonchira is not policing and doesn’t have any political undertones either. The movie is also personally special to the director-scriptwriter as Shahi, who has also worked as a cop, has been stationed at the Ila Veezha Poonchira police wireless station along with co-writers Nidhish G and Shaji Maarad.

While Ila Veezha Poonchira marked his directorial debut, the director had said that he was also planning to helm both Nayattu and Joseph but didn’t have the confidence that he could pull it off. Ila Veezha Poonchira, which dropped on Amazon Prime Video, past week, is an atmospheric murder mystery.

Meanwhile, Shahi has also signed up another police story – this time with Jayasurya in the lead. The upcoming movie has been titled Writer. “All I can reveal right now is that certain portions of the movie are inspired by real-life incidents. The police story is only one aspect of the film,” said the filmmaker, in an earlier interview with OTTplay.

Writer is expected to go on floors after Jayasurya wraps up shooting for Rojin Thomas’ Kathanar. The film will be directed by Ravisankar, who had also worked in Amal Neerad’s Bheeshmaparvam.
