Ila Veezha Poonchira: Director Shahi Kabir talks about what makes the film different from Nayattu and Joseph

Shahi Kabir’s story as a filmmaker is an interesting one, considering that before writing the 2018 hit Joseph, he was a civil police officer. The writer is now set to make his directorial debut with Ila Veezha Poonchira starring Soubin Shahir, and has explained how the upcoming film is different from Joseph and Nayattu.

“It is not about policing, and it is different from both Joseph and Nayattu. This is a personal film; it does not have any political undertones,” said Shahi Kabir, about the upcoming film as reported by Times of India.

“I took several cinematic liberties with Joseph, but hardly any with Nayattu,” Kabir said, adding that the former is not a story that hurts the police service in any ways, but the latter did, by showing the police system in detail.

Ila Veezha Poonchira is set at a police wireless station at Ila Veezha Poonchira, a location at about 3,500 ft, which receives the wireless communication of the whole of Kottayam district. The film becomes personal for the filmmaker as he and the two writers, Nidhish G and Shaji Maarad, have worked at the station.

The first time director also revealed that he was supposed to direct both Nayattu and Joseph, but he did not feel up to it and that he feels that he could handle Ila Veezha Poonchira because it happens in a particular space.

The makers released the first look poster of the film yesterday, and it features Soubin Shahir looking into the distance, standing in front of the police wireless station where the film is set. The film also stars Sudhy Koppa and Jude Anthany Joseph.
