Lakshya may leave Dostana 2 after rising fame. Though Vikrant Massey joined, the cast isn't final. Lakshya is currently focused on Chand Mera Dil with Ananya Panday.

The long-gestating project Dostana 2 is reportedly being reconsidered by Lakshya, who has seen a meteoric rise in Bollywood since his debut. Despite the actor's long association with the project, rumour has it that he may be planning to distance himself from the Dharma Productions endeavour to concentrate on his own slate.
From the raw intensity of Kill to the captivating drama of Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil and Haseena Parker, you can witness Lakshya’s versatile journey all in one place on OTTplay Premium!
The action flick Kill (2024) from Karan Johar's home banner was Lakshya's first appearance in a Hindi cinema. Nikhil Nagesh Bhat directed the film, which featured Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala as well. Despite having a little budget, Kill managed to do well at the box office, grossing around ₹47 crore globally. Success for the film catapulted Lakshya to lead roles in other projects, including Aryan Khan's directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood on Netflix. Lakshya's portrayal of Aasmaan Singh in the series solidified his reputation as a formidable actor.
The actor is seen in the upcoming musical romance Chand Mera Dil alongside Ananya Panday and is presently getting ready for its release. The film, which would have its theatrical debut on May 8, 2026, is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Vivek Soni. The new onscreen chemistry between Lakshya and Panday is a major selling point for the project.
However, the future of Dostana 2 remains uncertain. The film has faced numerous production setbacks and casting changes since its original announcement with Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan years ago. Even though Lakshya has been following previous reshuffles, there are rumours that he could be leaving.
"The Dostana 2 cast has not been locked yet. Lakshya might not do the film," said an insider to Filmfare, who confirmed the present lineup uncertainty.
After Vikrant Massey confirmed his involvement, the film got steam again. In recent interviews with the media, the actor talked about how thrilled he was to be joining the franchise and working with Dharma Productions for the first time. The loss of Lakshya would force the makers to start looking for a new lead actor, even though Massey is still committed to the movie.
According to the source, "Dostana 2 is happening for sure, but the cast isn't locked as of now." This means that the actors' roster is still up in the air, even though filming is still planned.
Neither Lakshya nor Dharma Productions has made a formal announcement about the departure. The actor is currently preoccupied with the Chand Mera Dil promotional campaign.
