Jana Nayagan is directed by filmmaker H Vinoth and stars Vijay in the lead role, in his final acting stint before contesting in the upcoming Tamil Nadu polls

It looks like the long-pending battle of Jana Nayagan against the Censor Board is reaching its end, with the social media buzz suggesting that CBFC’s revising committee has watched the film on Tuesday. With the censor certificate likely to be issued in a span of 10 days, fans are expected the Vijay-starrer to come out in May.

Jana Nayagan has been facing delay ever since January, giving the makers of actor Vijay’s last film a massive trouble over the censor process. While the film was first scheduled to release on January 9, the censor issues had made Jana Nayagan get delayed. It soon became a legal process, that further postponed the release of the film. Now, as per the reports, the revising committee of CBFC has watched the film on Tuesday, with the censor certificate likely to be issued within 10 days.
But at the same time, a report by The Week has stated that two members of the revising committee who had to watch the film on Tuesday had not turned up.
However, even if the makers get the censor certificate on hand, Jana Nayagan is expected to hit theatres only sometime in May. This is because elections in Tamil Nadu have been announced to take place on April 23, and with Vijay set to contest in his maiden polls, Jana Nayagan will be out only after that. However, an official announcement regarding the release date has not yet been made by the makers so far.
Jana Nayagan is directed by filmmaker H Vinoth and stars Vijay in the lead role. A farewell film to the actor, it is a partial remake of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. The star ensemble also includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Menon, Priyamani and others. Prime Video has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music.
Scores of fans are awaiting with bated breath to watch Jana Nayagan, given Vijay has quit cinema for politics. It is also a period of legal proceedings for the actor given Vijay’s wife Sangeetha had recently filed for divorce, and had to face CBI enquiry in relation to the Karur stampede tragedy.
