Jyotika starrer Ponmagal Vandhal is still making news, despite its release last year. The courtroom drama did well in motivating the child to raise her voice and share with her mother, who filed a complaint against the abuser. The forty-eight-year-old perpetrator, who is a relative to the family, has been sentenced to five-year imprisonment.

According to a Sun-News report, the girl watched a scene from Ponmagal Vandhal which highlighted that nothing should be concealed to a mother. Watching this motivated her to report to her mother who in turn, filed a police complaint against her daughter’s abuser. The Madras High Court, within one year, gave the verdict of five-year imprisonment for the perpetrator.

Jyotika took to social media recently to put up the news and captioned the post by saying, “Shatter that silence! Each time a woman stands up for herself, unknowingly she stands up for all women.”

The director of Ponmagal Vandhal, JJ Fredrick also shared the post while lauding the actor.

Talking about the movie, Ponmagal Vandhal shines a light on how cases of sexual harassment are dealt with in Indian Courts. Providing a voice for rape survivors, also highlights how tedious legal processes can be along with male chauvinism and patriarchy. The movie stars Jyotika, K Bhagyaraj, R Parthiban, Thiyagarajan and Pratap K Pothan among others.
