Kaantha, the Tamil period drama which is currently running in theatres, stars Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. The film follows a film-within-film format to tell the egoistic tale of an actor and director. Kaantha released in theatres on November 14.

As per the Sacnilk report, the film’s total collections right now domestically stand at Rs 9.2 crore. The two-day breakdown includes Rs 4.35 crore on day one and Rs 4.85 crore. This means the film has been keeping up with its momentum, with the film's major share coming from the Tamil release. Kaantha, which had opened to mixed reviews in Tamil and a slightly dull reception in Telugu, is jointly produced by Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, both of whom have also acted in the film. With the weekend ongoing, Kaantha might have a chance to dominate the box office, given there are no major south releases this week.

Kaantha is a period drama set in the 1950s Madras Presidency. The film revolves around a star actor and the director who introduced him. As the egoistic battle between them brew on the film sets they are shooting for, a sudden crime results in the film turning into a murder mystery. Kaantha marks the second time Dulquer Salmaan is essaying an actor, after his performance as Gemini Ganesan in the Telugu film Mahanati.
