Kaantha, the upcoming Tamil period drama headlined by actor Dulquer Salmaan, is all set to grace big screens on November 14. The film, which revolves around the movie industry, and rise of a superstar, is produced by Dulquer along with his buddy and actor Rana Daggubati. The latter is also starring in the film, in a prominent character. Here is what Rana is essaying in Kaantha.

By now, we all know that Dulquer Salmaan’s period film is set against the backdrop of film industry from the 1950s Madras. The film is gearing up for release in a few days, and the makers are touring the cities to promote the film. Besides Dulquer who took up the double duties of acting and starring in, fellow actor Rana Daggubati too, is backing and featuring in Kaantha.
While Dulquer plays the TK Mahadevan, an acclaimed star, who is involved in an ego clash with director who made him who he is now, the film also features Rana Daggubati. While he was spotted in the trailer, Rana Daggubati recently took up to X to have Q/A session with fans. One of them asked about his character in Kaantha, to which, Rana replied, “I play Phionex in Kaantha a crazy cop from the 1950’s who makes his own rules.”
It looks like Kaantha will also have a crime probe element, with the involvement of police, further hinting at the probabilities of how close the film can resemble a certain Tamil yesteryear actor. However, the makers have denied any resemblance to real life characters.
Kaantha is set to release in theatres on November 14, with Netflix reportedly bagging the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film also stars actors Bhagyashre Borse, and Samuthirakani in prominent roles. Although widely speculated to be the based on MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar’s life, the makers have dismissed it to be merely fictional film.
