A user called Kapil an idiot for not crediting Mir Ranjan Negi, touted to be the inspiration behind the character. During an episode on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Kapil Sharma shared a banter with Amol Mazumdar. “Aapko pata hai jab se aapne World Cup jeeta hai, log aapko Chak De ka Shah Rukh Khan bol rahe hai bahaar,” Kapil told Amol. The host went on to call both Amol and SRK just as handsome. When asked if he feels the same way, Amol said, “Nahi, Chak De wala nahi aa raha.” Jemimah Rodrigues went on to tease that Amol changed his name to Kabir Mazumdar at this point. The same left everyone in splits.

The controversy, explained

A Twitter user shared the video while trying to shame Kapil Sharma for naming Kabir Khan – a reel name. He insisted that the comedian should have taken the name of Mir Ranjan Negi, who reportedly was the inspiration behind the Chak De India character. Interestingly, the makers at the time had already denied that the story is based on a real-life character alone.

While responding to the tweet shared by the user, Kapil Sharma stated, “Dear sir when did I say Kabir khan? I said Shahrukh khan, and it was in a humorous way, which you will never understand bcoz apka taansane to besura hai hahaha, anyways happy new year. Stay happy n spread happiness.”

The Great Indian Kapil Show is currently in its fourth season. The upcoming episode – on January 3, 2026 – will feature Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri stars Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday.
