The upcoming film Kalamkaval, which marks iconic Malayalam actor Mammootty’s return to the big screen after a hiatus, is less than a month away from its theatrical release. As fans count down to the big day, updates such as the Kalamkaval runtime have surfaced. Kalamkaval is the third Mammootty movie to release this year, after Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and Bazooka, and the upcoming film clocks a slightly lesser duration than the other two.

Kalamkaval runtime revealed

Mammootty’s Kalamkaval runtime is 144.46 minutes (2 hours and 24 minutes), as per details given on the censor certificate. The movie has already been certified U/A 16+.

On the other hand, Mammootty’s first release of the year Dominic and the Ladies' Purse had a runtime of 152 minutes.

His second film Bazooka, a Vishu release, was around 154 minutes. This puts Jithin K Jose-helmed Kalamkaval at a slightly reduced duration, but gives hopes for a more taut thriller.

Dominic and the Ladies' Purse was helmed by Tamil actor-filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon in his Malayalam directorial debut, while Bazooka was directed by Deeno Dennis. However, both these films are yet to make their streaming debut even months after their release.

What is the plot of Kalamkaval?

Director Jithin K Jose has also penned the script of Kalamkaval along with Jishnu Sreekumar. The film takes us to a seemingly peaceful village Kottayikonam, in the last decade. What starts off as a routine police enquiry soon reveals startling findings, with the probe leading the cops to Tamil Nadu.

Vinayakan appears as the cop in charge of the investigation in the film, which will see Mammootty in a gray-shaded role yet again.

Jibin Gopinath plays another key role in the film, which also features Gayatri Arun and Rajisha Vijayan. Meera Vasudevan is also said to be a part of the thriller.

Meanwhile, fans are waiting for an update on the Kalamkaval trailer. Mammootty had dropped a new poster recently and said that the trailer would be out soon.
