Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 observed a surprising comeback with a massive gain in the Diwali weekend on Sunday. On Day 18, the period saga minted Rs 524.15 crore in the net collection in India across all languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and others. After a continuous dip in its earnings that went to single digits of less than 10 crore, Kantara Chapter 1 managed to improve as it raked in Rs 17.50 crore on the third Sunday (October 19). Despite a competition with Dude and Bison, Kantara lives up to its hype.

Kantara Chapter 1 keeps the momentum going as it roars with good numbers in the festive week of Diwali. With no major Hindi releases on the weekend, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara prequel witnessed a huge surge in its collection and aims to close with at least another 10 crore before it eventually fades away. The movie is set to make a new record as one of the most successful South Indian films, following in the footsteps of the Baahubali and Pushpa franchises.
Kantara enjoyed a successful first week in Hindi as it collected Rs 108 crore, followed by Rs 54.25 crore. After a steady run in the third week of its theatrical premiere, Kantara boasted its numbers as it earned Rs 6-6.75 crore (early estimates) on October 19 (third Sunday). The overall Hindi collection after completing eighteen days of its run stands at Rs 177 crore. After the awaited release of Thamma and EK Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Kantara is expected to fade at the box office as big Hindi releases gear up for their opening on October 21.
As per the analysis by industry tracker Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 witnessed a massive spike in the occupancy and numbers during the Diwali weekend. It covered an overall Hindi occupancy of 15.39% in the Hindi language on Day 18 (October 19). It had an occupancy of 10.86% for morning shows, while the afternoon shows had a spike with 18.28%, followed by the evening shows with 15.60% occupancy. The night shows lodged the highest occupancy of the day with 16.83%.
Rishab Shetty’s directorial delves into the epic saga of Kantara as the tribe and the kingdom clash with conflicts. Set in the fourth century and the Kadamba dynasty, the 2025 prequel film features Rishab Shetty as the brave warrior Berme, who embarks on a thrilling quest to fight off the greedy royal son (Gulshan Devaiah) as divine forces join him in the mystical journey. The movie also garnered praise for its captivating themes and power-packed performances as it explores Indian folklore and culture. Princess Kanakavathi is played by Rukmini Vasanth.
