Netizens not pleased with Diljit Dosanjh singing for Kantara Chapter 1

Earlier on September 12, the makers of Kantara Chapter 1, including actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty, shared a video from the recording of a song of the film in Mumbai with singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. While news of the collaboration had broken a day earlier, now that they have actually gone ahead and recorded the song, there’s an outpouring of vehement opposition, with netizens decrying Rishab’s choice, instead of promoting local talent.

Fans unhappy with Diljit Dosanjh's inclusion in 'divine' film

Unhappy fans wondered why Rishab would collaborate with someone who, not long ago, was in the eye of a storm for working with a Pakistani actress in Sardarji 3 and had justified this as well. Diljit, they reckon, is the wrong choice for a ‘divine’ movie like Kantara Chapter 1, as he’s widely seen as an alleged open supporter of the Khalistani movement. A quick look at the comment section of Rishab’s social media post has netizens urging the actor-filmmaker to stay away from Diljit or suffer the consequence with threats to boycott his film.

Kantara Chapter 1 release: Paid premieres on October 1 to kick off Rishab Shetty-led prequel?

Some, though, were genuinely excited about the collaboration, and urged others to see cinema as cinema and not bring politics into it. “#Chamkila 's highest selling album were devotional songs & so, glad to see this devotional collaboration of shiv thandav for #KantaraChapter1,” wrote a user. Another said that Rishab should ignore all the hate comments and focus on starting promotions of the film, given that it is less than three weeks away from its theatrical release date.
