For the last few days, there has been a fight between a few leading Telugu producers to bag the theatrical rights to the film. One of the sources close to the unit revealed to us that the theatrical rights have been bagged by a noted producer for a whopping ₹100 crore.
The Telangana rights have been sold for ₹40 crore, and the Andhra rights fetched ₹45 crore. On the other hand, the Vizag region's rights were sold for ₹15 crore. This is the highest ever for a Kannada-dubbed film in Telugu to date and shows how eagerly the film is being awaited.
The reason the rights were sold for such a high price is that Rishab Shetty has signed a few Telugu films and will next be seen in Jai Hanuman and a film with Ashwin Gangaraju as the director. His performance in Kantara left everyone awestruck and made him a massive star overnight.
Rishab has written and directed Kantara: Chapter 1, which also has Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, and she too has a solid following in Telugu. Made on a budget of ₹125 crore, the fantasy drama is being produced by Hombale Films, which has delivered back-to-back hits recently.
Not only in Telugu, but Kantara: Chapter 1’s rights in other languages are also being sold for record prices. The makers will soon kick-start promotions and have planned extensive events in the Telugu states in the days to come. Stay tuned for more updates.
