Karataka Damanaka OTT release date: Four months after its theatrical release the Yogaraj Bhat directorial is finally on OTT

The Kannada film Karataka Damanaka was much talked about for a couple of reasons – it was director Yogaraj Bhat’s first collaboration with Century Star Shivarajkumar and it brought actor-choreographer-filmmaker Prabhudeva back to Kannada cinema. The film released at the height of the water shortage in the state, especially in Bengaluru and even though water was a central theme, Karataka Damanaka failed to strike a chord with audiences.
Karataka Damanaka was expected to be on an OTT platform soon enough, but it’s taken a good 4 months to finally begin streaming. Karataka Damanaka dropped on Amazon Prime Video on July 12, as a birthday special from leading man Shivarajkumar.

The film, which also stars Priya Anand, Nishvika Naidu, Rangayana Raghu, Rockline Venkatesh and P Ravi Shankar, among others in the lead. It follows two conmen, Virupaksha and Balaraju, played by Shivarajkumar and Prabhudeva, as they head to Nandikoluru, at the behest of the warden of the jail they were at. He has a mission for them – should they be able to convince his parents to finally leave the village behind and join him in the city, he will help commute their sentence.
But when they get to Nandikoluru, they realize that the villagers are fighting a losing battle with the local MLA about getting a basic amenity like water. How Virupaksha and Balaraju come to their aid, while also falling in love, is what the film is about.
Shivarajkumar – Karataka Damanaka is a good break from all the serious roles I have been doing
Karataka Damanaka was Shivarajkumar’s first release of the year, which came after the moderately successful Ghost. Up next, the actor has a home production getting ready for its date with audiences. The prequel of Mufti, which explores the life of his character Bhairathi Ranagal before he became a machete wielding gangster, is coming to theatres in September, most likely in the last week, in competition with NTR Jr’s Devara.
