Karthi in Sardar

Karthi's Sardar has emerged as the Deepavali hit in Tamil Nadu this time, surpassing Sivakarthikeyan's Prince in terms of box office and word of mouth. The PS Mithran directorial, a spy thriller, is running to packed houses. Its Telugu version, released under the same title, too, is attracting cinephiles.

The engaging screenplay, effective twists, action scenes and detailing on many relevant issues are a few aspects which helped the movie work at the box office. The film ends in such a manner that the makers have left room to make a sequel for it.

At the success meet of the film which was held yesterday, Karthi and Mithran confirmed the same by releasing the last scene from the movie which hints at the possibility of a sequel. Karthi plays dual roles in Sardar for the second time in his career. Raashi Khanna, Chunky Pandey, Rajisha Vijayan and Laila among others essayed crucial characters in the film.

Its story revolves around Vijay Prakash, a sincere cop, who is desperate to earn a name by taking up a sensational case to erase the memories of his disastrous childhood. As he grew up, he was looked down on by society as a traitor's son. How he lands an intriguing case which has a strange connection to his father forms the rest of the plot.

The sequel of the movie is likely to begin with Vijay Prakash travelling to Cambodia as a spy. The various challenges he faces there will be the crux of the story.

Karthi, who was all praise for the director and technicians who worked in Sardar, opened up on the challenges he had to face while portraying two characters in the movie. According to the actor, playing a dedicated spy who is torn between his burdensome mission and loveable wife was quite challenging. He said that essaying the role of a cop, who is considered as a traitor's son, was even more demanding.
