Kerala Crime Files has been renewed for another season by JioHotstar, becoming the first Malayalam series ever to get a third season. Director Ahammed Khabeer is back at the helm of the popular series, which delved into different police investigations in its past two seasons. Not just the director, Season 2 writer Bahul Ramesh would also be back for the upcoming season, Ahammed confirmed to OTTplay in an exclusive interview. From the returning cast to when to expect the series, here’s everything Ahammed told us about the upcoming season.

Kerala Crime Files S3 writer Bahul Ramesh, cast and more

Filmmaker Ahammed Khabeer is back in focus with the Kerala Crime Files Season 3 announcement at the recent JioHotstar South Unbound event. But the June director tells OTTplay that the police investigative series is not next on his itinerary as he returns to the world of cinema, adding that the KCF would be taken up only after that.

“I will be working on a movie in January. Bahul Ramesh has also just finished Eko, which is now running successfully. So he has also taken a small break. We are yet to start writing, planning. The series would be made only after the movie. Only the announcement has been made, nothing else, including the release, has been planned,” Ahammed tells OTTplay.

Bahul Ramesh had penned the second season, Kerala Crime Files: The Search for CPO Ambili Raju, which premiered on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium in June 2025. The writer-cinematographer followed it up with the 2025 movie Eko, which completed his Animal trilogy after Kishkindha Kaandam and Kerala Crime Files 2.

Kerala Crime Files was launched in 2023 with Malayalam actors Aju Varghese and Lal in the lead roles of cops out to solve a murder at a lodge. The actors returned for Season 2 in 2025, which had Arjun Radhakrishnan in the lead and tackled another case. KCF director confirms that the OG cast would return for Season 3 as well.

“It is a franchise, so Aju chettan, Lal sir, and Arjun Radhakrishnan - all these characters will return. The story will be told through them. Maybe there could be someone new. We will plan the cast as per the story. The previous two seasons were also like that. Only after writing, we think of casting. If everything falls in place, they would also definitely be there,” he adds.

Ahameed’s next film, a rom-com, will start next year. The director adds that discussions are happening to fix the cast for that movie.
