If the buzz is to be believed, Bollywood star Vidya Balan is likely to play the leading lady in Kamal Haasan's next with Mani Ratnam. The film, is currently being referred to as KH234 and will mark Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan's reunion after three decades. Earlier the buzz was that Ponniyin Selvan 2 star Trisha was likely to play the leading lady. Nayanthara's name, too, briefly did the rounds, but it was later ruled out.

However, now Vidya Balan seems to be the frontrunner for the role. If the actress indeed comes on board, this will be her third film in Tamil. She had earlier worked in Mani Ratnam's Guru (2007) and H Vinoth's Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) opposite Ajith. Vidya Balan is a self-confessed fan of Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan and she had even stated at an award ceremony that she had worshipped him all her life. The team is yet to make an official announcement about the same.

The film will have music by AR Rahman, marking his next collaboration with Kamal Haasan after films like Indian and Thenali. The announcement of the news had broken the internet. KH234 will be bankrolled by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies, Kamal Haasan's RajKamal Film International, and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies.

The last time Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam had worked together was in Nayakan (1987). The epic crime drama had Kamal Haasan playing the Bombay underworld don Velu Naicker. The story was inspired by the life of Bombay underworld don Varadaraja Mudaliar and Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather. The film was a milestone in the careers of both Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam.

In the meantime, Mani Ratnam's film adaptation of the historical fiction Ponniyin Selvan 2 has just hit screens today and has taken a good opening worldwide. Kamal Haasan, on the other hand, is busy shooting for Shankar's Indian 2 and has been jet setting across the world.
