From a political satire on OTT to romantic drama and horror thriller in theatres, Kannada audiences have options this week

Kannada audiences were eagerly awaiting the streaming release of Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka, which was expected on August 15, but with two major theatrical releases – Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR’s War 2 – there’s been a delay in this plan, However, the fact that the team has now released the viral hit Bangle Bangari’s full video hints at an OTT outing shortly. There has, of course, not been an official confirmation from the film team or the streamer, but an Amazon Prime Video drop before the end of August is expected.

Kapata Nataka Sutradhari

Debutant filmmaker Dhiraj MV presents a political satire that follows the fallout of a Muslim man getting into a rather sticky situation at an ancient Hindu temple. In the film, Dhiraj played the lead role, Mohammad Ismail, a school teacher who accompanies a colleague to a village that’s famed for a wish-granting temple. All that devotees need to do is crawl under an elephant statue, but then Mohammad, who’s on the heavier side, gets stuck under it, presenting a unique situation.

Kapata Nataka Sutradhari movie review: Dhiraj MV's gutsy political satire has too soft a landing

Maaresan

Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu collaborated on this tale about an ex-convict trying to steal the fortune of an elderly man with Alzheimer’s disease and the life-changing journey that the duo undertakes. Directed by Sudheesh Shankar, the Tamil original film also stars Kovai Sarala, Sithara, Renuka, Livingston, among others, and will have Kannada audio.

Thalaivan Thalaivii

Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen headlined this romantic drama about a couple on the verge of divorce and the issues that led them to contemplate separation. Have they really reached the point of no return or is there still hope for the bickering couple? Director Pandiraj’s Tamil original film will stream with Kannada audio as well.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu

Pawan Kalyan’s period drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu’s failure at the box office had prompted reports that its OTT release would be advanced. There’s been no official confirmation from the team, but the film is expected on OTT before the end of the month.

The romantic comedy follows a newly-married couple and the conditions that define their relationship. Also starring Shruti Krishna, Achyuth Kumar, Sruthi Hariharan, Anup Bhandari, among others.
