Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra is undoubtedly the most-awaited Malayalam film in the OTT space. Speculations on whether Kalyani Priaydarshan-led film would land on Netflix or JioHotstar are running rife among trackers. But producer Dulquer Salmaan is yet to confirm an official release date and platform, even as Lokah continues its record-breaking run at the theatres. Netizens too have praised DQ for the ‘smartest move’ as Lokah looks to break into Rs 300 crore, creating box-office history in Malayalam cinema.

Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra is in its fifth week at the box office, and has already garnered around Rs 294.75 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Dominic Arun’s directorial film is hardly Rs 6 crore away from hitting the magic number of Rs 300 crore, which no other Malayalam film has achieved. This has become possible definitely because of the makers' decision to delay the OTT release and keep the movie in cinemas.

Praising Dulquer for the smart judgement, a netizen wrote on Twitter, “Holding back #Lokah from OTT was the smartest move, now the film is inching toward the ₹300 Cr mark and all set to become the highest grossing film in Kerala.” Dulquer also plays a cameo in the film, which features Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar and Arun Kurian in other key roles.

Amid claims about an impending Lokah digital release, Dulquer Salmaan had earlier put out a social media post stating the Malayalam superhero film would not be hitting the digital space any time soon. This was met with a positive reception, with several people pointing out the re-watch value of Lokah. “Good decision”, “No hurry” and “Very Bold Decision” were some of the reactions to his post.

Others also pointed out that the film is going to touch Rs 300 crore. Even on day 36, Lokah collected Rs 1.05 crore, which is a significant number, considering that Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has also been released.

On the other hand, Lokah hardly faced any competition from recent Malayalam releases of Karam and Balti with the latter starring Shane Nigam performing better than Vineeth Sreenivasan’s directorial.
