Kajol's movie Maa, which is part of Ajay Devgn-R Madhavan's Shaitaan Universe, is competing with Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par at the Box Office

Kajol's movie Maa has seen a slower Box Office opening as compared to the original film, Shaitaan. The movie released in the midst of Aamir Khan's Bollywood comeback film Sitaare Zameen Par still pinning hopes from Box Office numbers. Although the latter is nearing Rs. 100 crore club, Maa has only earned a decent Box Office number on day 1.

According to Sacnilk, Kajol's Maa had a decent opening of Rs. 4.50 crore. Mounted on a budget of approximately Rs. 55 crore, Maa could recover the money within week 1 with the current trend. However, the first weekend is important for the film. If it can recover even Rs. 25 crore within the weekend, then the movie has a chance to be declared a hit and start making history.
Ajay Devgn-R. Madhavan's Shaitaan made history at the Box Office right from its opening day. The movie had earned Rs. 14.75 crore on day 1 of its release. Maa, on the other hand, has minted only 1/3rd of that. Nonetheless, Shaitaan was inspired from Janki Bodiwala’s own Gujarati film Vash while Maa promises to be an original story and thus, it is too early to predict the film’s future. After averting another clash with Sonakshi Sinha-Paresh Rawal’s Nikita Roy, Maa could actually earn at the Box Office despite competition from Sitaare Zameen Par.
While Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par will cross Rs. 100 crore at the Box Office this weekend, Maa might see lower numbers. However, that should not affect Kajol's film much because it is already made on half the budget of Sitaare Zameen Par, and the latter is already a hit at the Box Office. Nonetheless, the mixed reviews for Maa means that the movie could go either way. The first weekend and especially first Monday would decide its fate at the Box Office.
