Rajkummar Rao's gangster action-thriller, Maalik, is all set to hit theatres on July 11. This film is a tough story of ambition, strength and survival set in Allahabad in 1988.

Maalik plot

Maalik is a gangster action drama that depicts one man's ambitious rise through the underworld, exploring themes of power, corruption, and the dark side of politics. The story is set in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in the 1980s and depicts the character's brutal journey into a violent world of crime, driven by ambition.

It is the story of a man who rises to power in the criminal underworld. The film looks at his brutal rise, his clash with a local strongman, and the political situation he finds himself in. The narrative explores themes of power, corruption, and the consequences of uncontrolled ambition.

Maalik cast and crew

Maalik features Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. It also casts Manushi Chhillar, Anshumaan Pushkar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, Swanand Kirkire, and others. Directed by Pulkit, the movie is produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani. The writers of Maalik are Pulkit and Jyotsana Nath.

Speaking about Maalik, Rajkummar told Scroll.in, "This isn’t the first time that somebody has offered me an action film. I had been approached for such films before, but I couldn’t connect with the story for some reason or the other. The film can’t just be action set pieces with a few scenes." He also added that Maalik had a proper story – a beginning, middle, and end.

Rao said that when he read the script, he found it to be very powerful and loved the character’s arc. According to him, his character is a helpless, low-level guy who is told to be a certain way, but then he becomes rebellious and decides to be his own boss.
