That Malayalam megastar Mammootty will be seen in a villainous avatar in the upcoming Malayalam film Kalamkaval had created significant buzz at the time of announcement. Actor Vinayakan plays the other key role in Kalamkaval, helmed by. Now, latest reports suggest that Kalamkaval could be set for an October release.

Kalamkaval set for October release?

Kalamkaval is an upcoming Malayalam film starring Mammootty and Vinayakan in key roles. Online trackers have said that the film is aiming for an October 9, 2025, release. However, the team of Kalamkaval has not confirmed the official release date of the movie. If the film does keep this date, it would release after the Pooja holidays that fall in the first week of October.

Earlier, there were reports that some of the post-production works, such as dubbing, are pending and the megastar is expected to wrap it up soon.

Director Jithin K Jose said that though the film is a fictional tale, the makers have taken inspiration from several actual incidents. Jithin K Jose had earlier penned films such as Kurup, which is based on the infamous tale of Sukumara Kurup. Notably, Kurup stars actor Dulquer Salmaan, who is the son of Mammootty.

Notably, two of Mammootty's films, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and Bazooka that released in 2025, failed to be a success, much to the disappointment of his fans, who are now pinning much hopes on the megastar making a triumphant return to the silver screen with Kalamkaval. Bth these films are yet to make their OTT debut as well.

Mammootty is the villain in Kalamkaval

Mammootty is said to be playing a villainous character in Kalamkaval, that is inspired by real-life serial killer Cyanide Mohan. But this is not the first time Mammo otty will be essaying a negative character. His most iconic villainous character would be the ruthless Bhaskara Patelar in the 1994 film Vidheyan, helmed by auteur filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Movies such as Puzhu, and Bramayugam all saw him in characters with dark shades.
