Sudeep hosts Bigg Boss Kannada 12

Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep has been the host of Bigg Boss Kannada for 12 seasons now and is on contract for at least 3 more. The actor, who is currently promoting his next release, Mark, was recently asked about the learnings he’s had from his stint on the show, what it takes to host Bigg Boss Kannada and more.

Sudeep: Bigg Boss is not scripted; requires spontaneity

Unlike cinema, where Sudeep has the freedom to improvise, and has a script to fall back on, the Bigg Boss stage does not offer him that. “The moment I am on set and the director calls action, I am live with the contestants; there are no retakes. They shouldn’t get the feeling that you don’t know; for that, I need to see and hear everything. Nothing can be scripted; it’s like an interview; my answers depend on the questions. That’s the exact same thing that happens during Bigg Boss Kannada,” he told Galatta Plus.

Sudeep adds that hosting Bigg Boss is all about personality, which includes spontaneity, an instinct that works right, good control over vocabulary, and insight into life. Only then, he reckons, can one handle a show like Bigg Boss. “Bigg Boss can be conducted only by those who are feared or are respected; one of the two has to work. The contestants in the house should either respect you to the core or fear you. Otherwise, the show cannot be hosted,” he reasons.

As for his lessons from hosting the show for the 12th consecutive season, the actor says that he’s a lot more patient than he used to be earlier. Today, if someone talks to Sudeep, he can sit quietly and listen to that person for hours and then decide whether it deserves a response or not. Back in the day, that was not the case.

That apart, the show has also given Sudeep a better insight into how to deal with people. The show, he says, is all about trying to understand the contestants’ personalities; each of who has a certain way of talking. “You learn to deal with people. The people I meet on the sets are no different from the contestants, or maybe even worse. It tunes you to the core that you are a beautiful musical instrument by the time you return to acting. And then, you are ready for anything,” he says.
