Mersal re-release: Vijay and Atlee’s blockbuster film to grace big screens once again

Earlier this year, Vijay’s romantic drama Sachien re-released in theatres and received a tremendous response once again from the audience. Months later, the actor’s another film is set to hit the big screens once again. This time it is going to be the 2017 action drama Mersal, which will re-release on June 20 ahead of Vijay’s birthday on June 22.

Following the successes of the re-release of Sachein this year and Ghilli last year, Vijay’s another film Mersal will release in theatres. Scheduled to hit big screens on June 20, it will be a part of Vijay’s birthday celebrations.

Mersal is an action drama directed by Atlee and marked one of the three collaborations the filmmaker made with Vijay, the other two being Theri and Bigil. Backed by Thenandal Studio Limited, as the banner’s 100th production, the film features a star ensemble including SJ Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menen, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala and Sathyan among others. Mersal features Vijay in triple roles. The film revolves around twin brothers who get separated at birth, with one growing up to be a magician and vigilante while the other becomes a doctor who treats patients at low prices. AR Rahman has scored the music.

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly anticipating the glimpse reveal of Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan on the actor’s birthday on June 22. Directed by H Vinoth, the film is touted as the actor’s final film before he takes up full-time politics from next year.

The film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026 just before the elections in April. Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde in her second collaboration with Vijay after Beast. Narain, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, and Teejay Arunasalam, among others, are also part of the film.
