Tamil theatrical releases in September 2025

Now that Tamil cinema is done with Coolie, more Tamil films are expected to hit theatres in September. With the festive season to begin with Ganesh Chaturthi, and Onam, south cinema is gearing up for some interesting releases and there is no less in Tamil. Here are some of the interesting titles slated for theatrical releases in September.

Madharaasi – September 5

Madharaasi is an action thriller starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. The film is helmed by AR Murugadoss and stars Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead. Madharaasi will showcasr Sivakarthikeyan in an intense, action-oriented role, with actors Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth and others as part of the cast. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music.

Bad Girl – September 5

Bad Girl helmed by debutante Varsha Bharath is coming-of-age story of a young girl from a conservative background as she begins to explore life. It is produced by filmmaker Vetrimaaran, and presented by Anurag Kashyap. Bad Girl had a run at the international film festival circuit and won the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Young Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the 40th Cinema Jove - Valencia International Film Festival in Spain. Anjali Sivaraman, Shanthi Priya, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, Sashank Bommireddipalli, and Saranya Ravichandran are part of the cast.

Kaantha – September 12

Kaantha is a Dulquer Salmaan led period drama in which the actor plays a superstar actor of the black-and-white era. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and also starring Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse, the film is said to be based on the life of Tamil cinema' first superstar. Kaantha will be set in old day Madras and revolves around the clash between an actor and director who helped to establish him.

Kiss – September 19

Kiss is an upcoming romantic comedy film starring actors Kavin and Preethi Asrani in the leading roles. The film is directed by choreographer Sathish Krishnan in his directorial debut. Earlier, the teaser of Kiss revealed that Kavin plays a man who comes as a barrier for couples as they kiss, and what happens when a girl enters his life.

Shakthi Thirumagan – September 19

Shakthi Thirumagan is an action thriller film which stars actor-musician Vijay Antony in the leading role. Director of films like Aruvi and Vaazhl, Arun Prabhu Purushottaman, is helming the project. The film appears to centre around a scam pulled off by the protagonist. Vaagai Chandrasekar, Sunil Kriplani, Cell Murugan, Trupthi Ravindra play prominent parts in the film.

Thandakaaranyam – September 19

Thandakaaranyam is an upcoming film starring actors Dinesh and Kalaiyarasan in the lead roles. It is written and directed by filmmaker Athirai Athiyan, who earlier made Irandam Ulaga Porin Kadaisi Gundu, while it is presented by director Pa Ranjith. Not much about the film's plot is known but the cast includes Riythvika, Vinsu Sam, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Muthukumar, Arul Dass, Saranya Ravichandran, and Bala Saravanan.
